The Charioteer is one of the finest products of the severe style.  He was found practically intact; the composition included a bronze chariot drawn by four horses.  It was dedicated to the sanctuary by Polyzalos, tyrant of Gela, around 475 B.C., following his victory at the Pythian Games.
