My first year working at George Fischer Castings in Bedford.

In April 1976 I took my first ever skiing holiday. I caught the train from Victoria Station through to Martigny in Switzerland. The journey was eventful because I caught the incorrect boat, and ended up in Boulogne instead of Calais. Correcting the mistake was possible by running a mile down the road and catching the train from Calais to Paris. I arrived in Martigny in the morning and caught the post bus to Verbier. Here I stayed in the flat rented for the season by Jane and Tom Gawthrop. Here I stayed for two weeks having a wonderful time.

The late-season was not the best skiing weather, you can see from the pictures there was no snow in Verbier. But there was some fresh snow high up in the mountains. Skiing Le Lac de Veux in white-out in my Jeans frozen to my body. Skiing the fresh snow on the black run of St Bernard Pass on my third day.
