Fish Supper at the Plough and Anchor

Blasdale Home Posted on April 17, 2003 by SteveAugust 8, 2017

You might be forgiven if you thought I was advertising the P&A, but they do excellent food and as they are near at hand it really saves on the driving. Anyway they had a special Fish evening on Friday which Rosemary and I attended.

For Starters Rosemary had Smoked mackerel, horseradish and egg parsley tian, while I had Deep fried Cromer crab and red pimento soufflé.

Mains were Natural smoked Haddock and Salmon set on a lemon grass skewer with pilau rice and sweet and sour sauce, while I had Pan fried Sea Bass on a bed of Celery mashed Potatoes with Tomato Ragout. All very excellent including the desserts.

The day was very warm although there was a strong breeze blowing.

Rosemary’s birthday

Blasdale Home Posted on March 20, 2003 by SteveAugust 8, 2017

To celebrate Rosemary’s birthday we visited the Plough and Anchor for Supper. Invited the next door neighbours to participate. After a few bottles of wine and a very good meal we retired home after midnight. I had an unusual starter salad of Mango, Avocado and honey, with a main course of Halibut

More work for Rosemary

Blasdale Home Posted on March 8, 2003 by SteveAugust 8, 2017

Another weekend with Rosemary working the whole weekend in the office. At least the product her company is implementing is now live. So no more weekends, and hopefully she will be back early from now on. The weather was too windy for paragliding, so I was not able to make use of my free time. Usual lunch time trip to the P&A for lunch.

Work work work

Blasdale Home Posted on February 28, 2003 by SteveAugust 8, 2017

Saturday was a sad day for me. Rosemary had to work all day. Result was a lunchtime meal in the Plough and Anchor as a reward for me. I do love their starter salad of green leaves, oranges and raspberry juice. The main course was lobster.

Accident at the P&A

Blasdale Home Posted on February 20, 2003 by SteveAugust 8, 2017

Last night, just after 9.00, a police car travelling from Bicester to Aylesbury on a blue light run was overtaking a van just before the Plough and Anchor pub. The van was turning into the pub, and has hit by the police car. The van ended up in the hedge. The police car took down the pub sign, (5 by 5 inch timber post), the cast iron lamp post which was shattered into may pieces some of which travelled 50 meters down the road. Took down the metal fence, hit the pub wall damaging the window and was wedged between the pub wall and the fence. No one was hurt.I was totally oblivious to what had happened, and only became aware of the problem when I went to the pub for a late nightcap. In the morning I took some pictures of the pub including one of Paul holding part of a pub sign on the other side of the road.

Burns Night

Blasdale Home Posted on January 23, 2003 by SteveAugust 8, 2017

Well not quite Burns Night, but for the Plough and Anchor, it was Burns Night.

Excellant meal was hosted by Paul Ring of the Plough and Anchor.  The menu was Scottish, but was not all Haggis, Neaps and Tatties.  We though did all get the chance for some Haggis even if we had not ordered it for the main course.

Next day was rather quite for me, rather too much Lagavulin the night before.

Clay Shoot and Lunch

Blasdale Home Posted on December 26, 2002 by SteveAugust 8, 2017

Out for shooting at 10.30.  Whole family went to the shoot, Selina did not shoot, but Graham the boy friend shot very well for someone who has not held a gun.   The weather was warm, but windy and likley to rain at any time.

Vicky from next door brought her son (Matt), who had shot for the English team when younger.  You could see from the way he shot he was in another league from us.

Next back to the Plough and Anchor for lunch and lots of beer.  Had a special treat of the beer Spitfire.

Shooting

Blasdale Home Posted on November 17, 2002 by SteveAugust 7, 2017

Today was a club shoot at the Kingswood Clay and Rough Club. About ten people turned up for a shoot on Pete’s farm. Afterwards I did a bit of wood cutting in the grave yard, and then said goodbye to Rikki from the Plough and Anchor. He is moving on to the Bull and Butcher.

Saint Georges day

Blasdale Home Posted on April 23, 2002 by SteveAugust 7, 2017

The local pub was having a special Saint Georges day celebration with cheap London Pride, and G&T’s. Rosemary and I had booked and we arrived for our meal. We were placed at the table of the usual evening drinking crowd (George and Annie, the local Mazda car dealer, Peter the retired farmer who’s son farms 2000 acres near Westcott, Graham and Fran (he has done pretty well everything), Tony the guy who made our windows.

I had Steak and Kidney Pudding with bubble and squeak, while Rosemary had faggots. Very Traditional English fare. A few pints of beer and wine were had. Spotted Dick for afters.

Rosemary left at about 10.30 and I stayed on till midnight leaving last. A bit of a sore head the next day.

The tickets for the Golden Jubilee celebration are selling well, I have not bought mine yet. Must do it on Thursday otherwise as an organiser it would look bad not being there for the meal. The rope of the tug of war has been acquired.
